Internship Program
The Georgia Attorney General's office offers a NON-PAID / VOLUNTEER summer internship for rising third year law students who are currently enrolled in an accredited law school. The program generally runs from the third week in May through the first week in August. Typically, one intern is assigned to each of the 6 legal divisions. The Divisions are as follows:
Regulated Industries and Professions Division
This Division includes the following Sections: State Licensing Boards, Consumer Interests and Environmental and Natural Resources.
Commercial Transactions and Litigation Division
This Division includes the following Sections: Business and Finance, Real property, Construction, Transportation and Authorities and Tax.
Criminal Justice Division
This Division includes the following Sections: Healthcare Fraud, Public Safety, Post Conviction Litigation and Capital Litigation.
General Litigation Division
This Division includes the following Sections: Civil Rights Litigation and Tort Litigation.
Government Services and Employment Division
This Division includes the following Sections: Education, Elections, Local Government and Judiciary, Labor and Employment and Human Resources.
Special Prosecutions Division
This Division is primarily responsible for investigating and prosecuting government corruption cases.
The primary goal of our internship program is to give law students a hands-on opportunity to experience a unique public law practice. In addition to research projects, interns will be encouraged to actively participate in matters being handled by the division to which they are assigned. Interns have the opportunity to participate in client meetings, mediation sessions, depositions, court proceedings, and other "real life" lawyering experiences. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend out of office events. These events may include prison tours and tours of the Public Safety Training Center and Crime Lab.
Interested applicants should submit the following:
- Department of Law Intern Application and waiver (located below)
- a statement of interest letter
- a resume noting awards, activities and outstanding accomplishments
- a copy of your most recent transcript, and
- a writing sample.
